So last Saturday found us driving down the M6 on the way to Coventry to attend a monthly “Breakfast Club” meeting as part of the Jaguar Drivers’ Club at the Motor Musem at Gaydon.
If you’re interested in cars then the museum is well worth a visit with 100’s of cars on display including a range of modern, vintage and concept models. Entry is £14 but is valid for 12 months so a bit of a bargain if you intend to go a few times (I think day ticket is £9 for single day!) and there are some concessions available. There is a cafe on site serving drinks, snacks and breakfasts etc too.
If you are fan of the Jaguar Marque then time your visit for first Saturday of the month to see a wide assortment of models across the Jaguar range (see their website for more details at http://www.jaguarbreakfastclub.org.uk/
As there was another Jaguar event the next day at Coombe Abbey we decided to stop over for one nght at Britannia Hotels’ Coventry Hill Hotel and the following is a brief review of the hotel.
The Coventry Hill Hotel was very easy to find and seemed to have ample parking available. Check in was fast and friendly and we were invited to upgrade to buffet breakfast (£12 for 2 guests) and also to evening meal at £9.99 each. As we had driven a long way and already had a busy day we didn’t want to drive anywhere else to eat so it was a great option to “eat in” and gave us a good chance to relax and unwind!
The food at dinner was of reasonable quality but with limited choice, breakfast was good and was self service buffet style with cereals, cooked breakfast, toast etc. One slight letdown was that it was not possible to be served drinks with the meal and you had to walk some way to the bar to get your own, I really think Britainnia could do better with that. The bar itself was pleasant and bar prices very cheap (Pint of bitter + J20 was under a fiver!).
Overall we were quite happy with the room and the hotel. Road noise mentioned by other review sites was minimal (we were on 5th floor). The room had blackout curtains which were great – I really wish all hotels had them! We wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.
We paid £62 for a standard double which was reasonable value for a Saturday night (book via Quidco to earn up to 8% cashbook on Hotels.com bookings and join their rewards program to earn a free night for every 10 nights!
